Happy Halloween and, well, any other belated holidays we missed out on while criminally neglecting this blog. But honestly, election season has always been more horrific to us than any ghost or monster produced on All Hallow’s Eve. So let’s talk about our recent spooky game project that we submitted to the Spooktober Game Jam.

‘Necromance’ was made within one month, per the Jam rules. While developing our story, we started from the log line up. Putting the ‘Romance’ back in ‘Necromancy’ led us to the start of the game, where you play as a hooded figure who’s dreamed of the beautiful Lady Orla ever since childhood. She was a warrior of renowned legend who defeated the evil Necromancer long ago before meeting her untimely end.

The dreams taught you how to bind the soul of the very same Necromancer who has long been sealed away. With the reluctant and ill-tempered lich, you set off on your quest to a derelict cemetery of a long abandoned town in the swamp. Our amazing artist and lead designer made the inspired choice of a shadowbox art style to deal with the short time constraints. The results were an extremely cool and stylized approach that made us stand out.

In a field of over 250 games, we were in top consideration and won an honorable mention. During the awards ceremony, several judges cited us as one of their favorite games. The art style (Including the amazing judge who nailed the German Expressionism inspirations) and the writing were considered among the best of the competition.

So head on over and pick it up for free! We would love to hear back from anyone who’s played it. There are three endings and fourteen game-overs to find. Perhaps you can even find the elusive mushroom ending . . .

Over the next few months, we plan to add features such as full voice acting, achievements, and an art gallery. Expect a Steam release around Valentine’s Day!
